This Week’s Signal

The market has a steady number of roles, but fewer companies are hiring.

What Changed

Hiring held steady.

The headline counts stayed stable, but the composition underneath them tightened.

  • Active roles: 111 (down from 112)

  • Hiring Index: 154.0 (flat)

  • Expansion Rate: 18.6% (flat)

  • Median roles/company: 2.5 (flat)

  • Scaling companies (3+ roles): 11 (flat)

  • Top-four share: ~50% (flat)

The overall size of the market changed only slightly. The more important shift is where activity sits. Live hiring lost only 1 role, but 3 hiring companies filled or removed roles. The result was a market with similar demand, but fewer active entry points.

Key moves:

  • CoLab Software added Senior Product Marketing Manager

  • SmartICE Monitoring & Information Inc. shifted from one generic community role to two specific openings

Weekly View: Under the Surface

Since last week’s issue, there have been a few changes in the tech hiring market. The most notable data point is that 3 hiring companies removed advertised roles, meaning that they likely filled them, or received enough qualified applicants to move to the next step in the hiring process.

This week, there are some notable roles on the board. Wealth Management AI company Verlo is hiring its first-ever Customer Success Manager, signalling growth and expansion to service their customer base.

CGI continues to advertise for a range of roles in their growing St. John’s office.

Kraken, which achieved unicorn status in September 2025, just added a posting for Manager, Health, Safety and Environment to meet the demands of its growing team. This role is listed for Dartmouth, although worth noting as it’s an indicator of company growth and expansion as Kraken continues to make moves in the defense sector.

Company Insights

  • Kraken Robotics moved from 14 live roles to 16

  • Spellbook widened from 18 roles to 19

  • CoLab Software moved from 8 to 9
